As the world observes World Autism Awareness Day on April 2, the conversation around neurodiversity is shifting from mere awareness to active acceptance and empowerment. A significant driver of this change is the collaborative initiative between the Kindness Practice Foundation and Tata Power’s ‘Pay Autention’ program, which has been conducting specialized therapy and training camps across India to support families living with autism.
A “Phygital” Ecosystem for Holistic Care
The partnership focuses on a “phygital” (physical + digital) ecosystem designed to provide early support and holistic care. While the broader Pay Autention network has already reached over 18,000 families as of late 2025, the collaboration with Kindness Practice Foundation targets specific, high-impact outcomes through direct interventions in cities like Mumbai and Bangalore.
Empowering Parents: ‘The Key Is YOU‘

A cornerstone of the program is parent therapy, recognizing that a child’s progress is deeply linked to the well-being of their primary caregivers. Workshops such as “The Key Is YOU” in Mumbai have helped parents move from “panic to clarity”.
- Focus Areas: Training covers managing speech delays, behavioral challenges, and meltdowns through daily regulation tools.
- Parental Wellness: Sessions emphasize that parents often operate on “empty fuel” and provide stress-releasing exercises and nutritional guidance to help them maintain the emotional energy needed for their children.
- Impact: Parents reported a significant shift from “fixing the child” to understanding their own role in fostering a calm, regulated home environment.
Innovative Child Therapies
The camps also provide direct therapeutic interventions for children, utilizing creative outlets to enhance development.
- Music Therapy: In Mumbai, multi-sensory workshops led by certified therapists used rhythm and melody to improve motor skills and emotional regulation.
- Observations: Even non-verbal students showed engagement through rhythmic clapping and visual attention. A noteworthy success was a closing relaxation segment where a group of young children remained calm for seven minutes, indicating improved nervous system regulation.
Innovative Child Therapies

In Bangalore, the focus shifted to Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and vocational skill training.
- Functional Independence: Parents and teachers were trained in “task analysis”—breaking down complex tasks like dressing, grooming, and eating into manageable steps.
- Comprehensive Support: The training went beyond basics to include essential topics like age-appropriate sex education (body awareness and safe touch), menstrual hygiene for girls, and specialized nutrition to support cognitive growth.
The Path Ahead
The Kindness Practice Foundation and Tata Power plan to expand this impact throughout 2026. Future goals include:
- App Development: Creating a digital support tool as part of the “Friends of Autism” network.
- School Adoption: Adopting the parent therapy centers and schools involved in the initial workshops to measure and sustain long-term impact.
- Independent Living: Focusing on helping neurodiverse individuals grow into independent adults with strong neural connections and physical coordination.
By bringing autism support into mainstream media and providing families with practical, home-based tools, this collaboration is ensuring that kindness leads the way toward a more inclusive society.
